Tour overview
DAY 1) 16th Wellington - Papakowhai
On arrival we’ll meet you at the airport and take you to Papakowhai, a coastal suburb away from the busy capital city, and where your accommodation and your steed awaits. After a little relax, it’s down to the restaurant for a great meal and a relaxed night (including a ride briefing and introductions to the riders joining us). Then it’s back to your accommodation for a good night’s sleep before the adventure begins. |
DAY 2) 17th Papakowhai – Whangamomona
372 kms / 4.30 hrs + stops After a brilliant night and great sleep, it’s time to pack those saddle bags! We’ll head up the West Coast to Whanganui then inland on the forgotten Highway to the tiny township of Whangamomona - truly rural New Zealand. With one way tunnels, hand cut through the hillside and bushland, enjoy an incredible ride before we settle in the yesteryear comfort of the towns only hotel, a really fun location with a great vibe. |
DAY 3) 18th Whangamomona – Paeroa
284 kms | 4 hrs + stops After a great breakfast we head east into the centre of the Island. We'll bypass all the major roads and traffic so we can enjoy the seemingly endless curves, the Black Top as it makes its way across to the east coast and the bush clad paradise of the Coromandel. Tonight we settle in Paeroa, a smallish rural township famous for its friendly locals and the world’s best soft drink made locally (L&P). Here you’ll rest up in the comfort of a luxury apartment only a few metres from the town centre. |
DAY 4) 19th Paeroa – Whangamata
173 kms | 3.5 hrs + stops Today we ride the famous Coromandel loop through some of the most beautiful natural forest in New Zealand. We'll visit some of the old settlements and crafty area’s before reaching the golden sands of Whangamata. Tonight we settle in luxury surroundings in this beach village with incredible Pacific Ocean views. Perfect after a great day’s riding. |
DAY 5) 20th Whangamata – Te Kaha
287 kms | 4 hrs + stops Today it’s an early start, and the ride ahead ticks all the boxes! Lap up the beautiful fern clad canopies, rolling hillside, and enjoy a coffee stop at Mt Maunganui - one of New Zealand's most popular beaches and holiday spots. Next we ride the coastline only metres from the Pacific Ocean and the Black Top to the harbour township of Whakatane, then onto Te Kaha and our beachside accommodation with unbelievable ocean views. |
DAY 6) 21st Te Kaha – Gisborne 270 kms | 4 hrs + stops
270 kms | 4 hrs + stops Today you’re in for a real adventure! We ride around the Easternmost point of New Zealand and the first place in the world to see the sunrise of new day. Keeping with the theme of our ever-changing scenery so far, this region is full of surprises. And with low population there are no freeways out here, instead just beautiful coastal curves, small villages with the odd horse tethered on the main street and sites of significant interest from years past. We head south along the coast before briefly re-joining civilisation on the state highway as we enter the city of Gisborne. A city famous for its fertile soil, crops and wicked surfing beaches. Here we settle harbour side within walking distance of the city centre. |
DAY 7) 22nd Gisborne – Taupo
331 kms | 4.30 hrs + stops Enjoy a bit of everything today - thick bush, beautiful lakeside curves, open farming country and national forest land before arriving at the crater lake that is Taupo. Tonight after a brief stop in the town, it’s off to our accommodation at Huka Falls resort for a really comfortable and well deserved relax after and incredible days riding. |
DAY 8) 23rd Taupo – Wellington
300 kms | 4.45 hrs + stops It may be our last day together, but it’s still throttle on for your ultimate riding experience. After a relaxed start we’re off to Wellywood under the watchful eye of Mt Ruapehu, then taking the less travelled roads from Taihapi to Bunnythorpe. Enjoy a brilliant ride alongside huge white clay cliffs as we take the back way home via small town New Zealand. As an incredible finale we'll ride the awesome Paekakariki Hill with incredible views across the Cook Strait to the Southern Alps of the South Island, and North to New Plymouth and Mt Taranaki, before descending into the Pauatahanui Valley at the edge of the Wellington region. |
We’ll arrive back at the stable around mid afternoon (2pm-3pm) on Saturday. Whether you decide to stay for one last night of comradery and laughter before leaving for home, or need to catch an evening flight, we’re with you all the way. Our luxury coach is available to get you where you need to be keeping things totally hassle free!
