Terms and conditions

Real Aotearoa Limited trading as motorcycle tour and motorcycle rental operators based in Wellington, New Zealand.

Riders

All riders of our motorcycles must be 25 years or over and have at least two years of regular motorcycling experience on a similar size motorcycle to the one they hire.

Each rider must have a full, valid driving license in their own name from their country of residence or an international driving permit, with a motorcycling endorsement appropriate to the capacity of the motorcycle rented. If your license is not in English, you must obtain a translation prepared by a diplomatic representative at a high commission, embassy or consulate, or obtain an International driving permit.

The wearing of helmets is compulsory in New Zealand, you may bring your own or hire one from us.

Refunds

Real Aotearoa Ltd is not required to refund any charges if you cancel or miss meals, activities or accommodation bookings, once the tour has commenced.

Real Aotearoa Ltd reserves the right to cancel a guided tour up to 30 days prior to a tour. In this unlikely event, we will refund your monies in full or offer you a guided tour on another date or arrange, with your consent, an independent tour, and we will refund the difference in cost.

In the event of there being less than 4 motorcycles booked on a fully guided tour, we reserve the right to supply a tour guide on a motorcycle only.

NB - To protect yourself, we strongly advise you purchase travel insurance at the time of booking your tour or rental.

Real Aotearoa reserves the right to cancel or remove use of a support van from any tour or activity, where insufficient numbers confirmed on a tour or activity.

Driving in New Zealand

Driving is on the left hand side of the road in New Zealand. If you drive on the right in your country of residence, it is in your interest to practice right hand U turns prior to your arrival. The rider is responsible for all traffic fines and such fines can be deducted from your security bond to pay New Zealand Police. Please study the New Zealand Driving code which is available online at www.landtransport.govt.nz/roadcode and lots of tips at drivesafe.org.nz

Accident Compensation

CORPORATION (ACC)

The ACC covers New Zealand residents and visitors for medical expenses in the public system following an accident. ACC is not a replacement for travel insurance. It only covers injuries, not illnesses, and only while the person remains in New Zealand. It doesn't cover things like disrupted travel plans and lost deposits, assisted or emergency travel home or travel for family.

Travel Insurance

We strongly advise you to take out appropriate travel insurance at the time of booking. Please ensure that as well as the usual cover, the insurers are aware of, and include the fact that you will be riding a motorcycle and the motorcycles capacity. Failure to do so could result in a claim being denied for medical repatriation and its associated costs or any loss or damage to yourself and your property. It should also to cover you for loss of deposit in the event of you having to cancel your tour.

Return of Motorcycles

If no notice is given by the hirer, Real Aotearoa Ltd can at its discretion charge up to $1,000 per day for any unreturned motorcycle at the time agreed in writing on the hire agreement form, until the motorcycle is returned to our premises undamaged. This will be deducted from the security bond deposit. Leeway will be at our discretion.

Passports and Visas

You are responsible for ensuring that you have the required passport and visa to enter New Zealand. Details can be found on line at www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/visit

Reimbursements cannot be made for missed meals, attractions or accommodation.

Repairs

Any problems encountered with the motorcycle, whether mechanical, electrical or otherwise, must be reported to the owner within twenty-four (24) hours of the occurrence of the problem. Call us on +64 21 728 027.

If you are an independent tourer and your motorcycle suffers a puncture, a repair kit is supplied with the bike and instructions are included. Please make the repair and continue with caution to the next town where the tyre should be checked and repairs carried out as necessary.

Our bikes are meticulously maintained, so we do not expect breakdowns. In the unlikely event of a breakdown, we have AA road side breakdown cover. If the motorcycle has a mechanical fault and is not rideable and it is not your fault, we will do our utmost to get another bike to you so you can continue your tour.

Puncture and tyre damage are the responsibility of the Hirer. The undersigned will be liable for any cost associated with the incorrect use of fuel or contamination of the fuel tank. All repairs must be authorised by Real Aotearoa management before any repair work is undertaken.

Damage and Default

Real Aotearoa Ltd reserves the right to terminate the tour and / or rental and take possession of the rental motorcycle of any person who in our opinion is likely to endanger themselves or others or if the hirer fails to comply with any of the terms of the agreement, or if the motorcycle is damaged. Replacement of a damaged motorcycle is at the discretion of Real Aotearoa.

If the Hirer has an accident which may or may not involve damage to a third party, telephone contact must be made immediately with Real Aotearoa. Real Aotearoa will then authorise the Hirer of the next steps to take. There is no obligation on the part of Real Aotearoa to cover costs incurred by the Hirer transporting themselves or the motorcycle this will be completely at the hirers expense. No cosmetic repairs are to be made until the motorcycle is returned to Real Aotearoa.

The hirer will pay for all cost associated with bringing the motorcycle back to a safe and roadworthy condition. All receipts must be retained and upon return of the motorcycle a final assessment will be made by Real Aotearoa. If the motorcycle is deemed to be damaged beyond repair the agreement herein is terminated and there will be no refund on the rental or any monies paid.

Any rental accessories or luggage must be returned by the Hirer to Real Aotearoa at the Hirer’s cost. These provisions apply regardless of the cause of the accident or whose fault it was.

Traffic Infringements

Real Aotearoa reserves the right to charge the Hirer an administration fee of $50 per incident for each parking fine, speeding fine, traffic infringement, speed camera fine, or accident involving third party property damage which was not reported upon the return of the motorcycle.

Motorcycle rental terms

and rental insurance

You, the hirer, will be asked to declare that you are 25 years of age or over and have not been convicted in a criminal court for any criminal offence or for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The hirer will be asked to complete an 'Agreement to Hire' form prior to starting their tour.

Our motorcycles have comprehensive insurance. A security bond/insurance excess of NZ$3,000 is taken on the signing of the rental agreement which will be refunded on the return of the bike undamaged. If the motorcycle, accessories or any third party property has suffered damage or loss we will make an assessment of the monetary value of such damage or loss and, under advice to you, will deduct this value from the security bond held.

Insurance cover is voided and the hirer is fully liable for all costs if:
1. Any of the terms of the rental agreement are breached.
2. Damage to property is caused by careless, willful or reckless driving including whilst the rider is under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
3. Damage to property is caused by rider negligence including but not limited to damage from incorrect use of fuel or other fluids, not locking with the key and the steering lock when left unattended, or leaving the motorcycle unattended in a careless location.
4. Damage to property is caused by riding on 'unauthorised' roads, tracks, beaches or cross country.
5. The rider’s license is invalid, not current or not appropriately rated for the motorcycle.
6. The motorcycle was being ridden in an unlawful manner, such as on the right-hand side of the road.
7.
