You’ll visit many of the locations that have put New Zealand on top of the list for ‘must visit destinations’ in the world (lonely Planet pub 2015). With the option of visiting Burt Munro’s home town, viewing the World’s fastest Indian and Burt’s actual workshop displayed at E. Hayes & Sons Hammer Hardware, along with a visit to Transport World for a world class collection of motorcycles and vintage vehicles, all the while enjoying the comfort an Iconic Indian cruiser. |

Tour overview
The day before departure) WELLINGTON
We suggest you arrive in Wellington the day prior to the tour, as Day 1 is a relatively early start to the day with an 8am sailing to the South Island. We’ll pick you up from the Airport and transfer you to your hotel, before getting you familiar with your iconic steed for the tour. Tonight night you’re invited to join us in our Real Aotearoa Meet & Greet Experience with the rest of the group with an after dinner gathering and nibbles. |
DAY 1) WELLINGTON - HANMER SPRINGS215 kms / 127 miles / 3hrs
Today we have a cruisey start to the day as we board the ferry and sail across the Cook Strait to the South Island. Once on land, we ride south to Kaikoura, then heading down the East Coast and taking you to a few hidden treasures, including a very special seal pup nursery, then it’s inland to Hanmer Springs. The natural thermal pools and waterways of the springs have attracted guests from around the globe and are at the doorstep of your accommodation in the heart of this village. |
DAY 2) HANMER SPRINGS - METHVEN
222 kms / 138 miles / 3hrs Today we ride the back country of the Canterbury Plains, through small towns and villages, as we turn inland toward the Arthur’s Pass. From here we ride beneath the Southern Alps to the Village of Methven. A small village with a great vibe and our accommodation after what will have been a great day’s riding. |
DAY 3) METHVEN - MT COOK261 kms / 161 miles / 3hrs
After breakfast we ride south to Lake Tekapo in Mackenzie Country and the foot of the Southern Alps - followed by a ride beside New Zealand’s largest man made canal system providing spectacular views over the region. Then after a relaxed coffee stop and visit to the Church of the Good Shepherd at lakes edge, we head to the Mt Cook lodge & Village situated at the foot of Aoraki/Mt Cook the tallest mountain in New Zealand and our resting spot for the evening. |
DAY 4) MT COOK - CARDRONA230 kms / 143 miles / 2hr 45min
Today we ride through Central Otago past some incredible ranges and into the Lindis Pass before arriving in Wanaka - a lakeside village surrounded by mountains. After a coffee and good look around, we continue south to Cardrona where our accommodation awaits. Enjoy a wonderful step back in time with our hotel full of character and yester year charm, not to mention the most comfortable beds in Central Otago! |
DAY 5) CARDRONA - TE ANAU
350 kms / 200 miles / 4hrs This morning after a complimentary breakfast you’ll get to experience the infamous Crown Range. After the thrilling ride we’ll head east to Lake Dunstan through the Cromwell Gorge, another incredible road winding its way to Clyde Dam and the hydro power station. Then it’s deep into Southland and Burt Munro country, as we settle beside the lake in Te Anau. |
DAY 6) TE ANAU - MILFORD SOUND - TE ANAU235 kms / 244 miles / 3.5hrs
Today’s a real beauty! We’ll ride past mirror lakes and native flora so thick it will take your breath away, then we climb the mountain range before descending through the Homer Tunnel into Milford Sound. Here you can relax on an uncrowded cruise, spoiling you with unlimited views of the wildlife, waterfalls and of course Mitre Peak. Then as there’s only one road into the sound, it’s a relaxed cruise back to Te Anau, returning to our accommodation for the evening. |
DAY 7) TE ANAU - QUEENSTOWN
171 kms / 105 miles / 2hrs This morning after a relaxed start and a look around, it’s a short but breathtaking ride to NZ’s adventure capital, Queenstown. Or Optional TE ANAU – INVERCARGILL – QUEENSTOWN (345 kms / 4hrs) Visit Invercargill, home of Burt Munro and where the World’s Fastest Indian is proudly displayed, and also home to Motorcycle Mecca - New Zealand’s premiere motorcycle museum. Next make your way through majestic mountains, aside the crystal clear Lake Wakatipu to Queenstown. Here we settle in at the Novotel Luxury Lakeside Hotel for our 2 night stay. |
DAY 8) QUEENSTOWN
Today make the most of a free day – if you have any Kiwi adventures you want to tick off your bucket list, this is the place to do it! Get your blood pumping with a Shotover Jet ride, or take a cruise down Lake Wakatipu aboard the iconic old steamship, the TSS Earnslaw. Tonight we’ll take you up the Gondola for a complimentary meal - complete with views of the city, the Remarkables Mountain Range and Lake Wakatipu - a truly incredible on top of world dining experience. |
DAY 9) QUEENSTOWN - FRANZ JOSEF
351 kms / 218 miles / 3hr 45min This morning it’s an early start as we head off to Historic Arrowtown for breakfast. Then we’re back on the road, riding through some of the most beautiful scenery in NZ – roads that will make you think God himself was a motorcyclist! As we make our way to Franz Josef - and glacier territory. |
DAY 10) FRANZ JOSEF - PUNAKAIKI
215 kms / 134 miles / 2hr 50min Today we invite you to come with us and meet our own Kiwi bird and chicks! Or enjoy a Helicopter ride up the glacier before we ride the Tasman Sea Coastline and take a step back in time with a visit to ShantyTown. Here you can pan for gold and explore life back in the 1800s. Next stop, The Bushman’s Centre for a very special NZ bush experience! Before arriving at our accommodation on the water’s edge, only metres away from the world famous Pancake Rocks and blow holes. |
DAY 11) PUNAKAIKI - NELSON
259kms / 161 miles / 3hr 30min Get ready for biker heaven. Today we’ll take in a little more of this beautiful coastline before you get to experience the fun of the brilliant winding roads inland riding through the Buller Gorge en route to the sunny Nelson district, with its golden beaches and quirky villages making for a fantastic conclusion to the day. Here we stay right in the centre of the vibrate town, with all manner of stores, galleries and eatery’s at our door step. |
DAY 12) NELSON - WELLINGTON
143 kms / 89 miles / 2hr 30min Today we have a cruisey start to the day, with the opportunity to have a good look around before riding the coastal route through Queen Charlotte Sound. We’ll make our way deep into the Marlborough Sounds before arriving in Picton, where we’ll board our ferry and you can relax and reminisce as we head for Wellington and our luxury accommodation in the heart of the city. |
DAY 13) Sadly our last morning together.
After a great nights sleep, it’s time to return your trusty steed and say farewells back at our depot in Petone. Whether it’s homeward bound, or off on your next adventure, we’ll get you to the airport or wherever you need to be without any stress - just great memories of your Real Aotearoa experience. |
