Tour overview
DAY 1) WELLINGTON
On arrival we’ll meet you are the airport and take you to Plimmerton, a coastal suburb away from the busy capital city, and where your accommodation and Indian awaits you. Tonight we'll take you down to the 'seaside local' for a great meal and a relaxed night (including a ride briefing and introductions to the Kiwi riders joining us), then it’s back to your accommodation for a good night’s sleep before the adventure begins. |
DAY 2) PLIMMERTON - ROTORUA
428 kms / 5hrs + stops After a brilliant night and great sleep, it’s time to pack those saddle bags. We’ll head up the Kapiti Coast then turn inland into rural New Zealand before climbing to the central plateau, a desert land with snow-tipped mountains towering up into the skyline. From here we descend to the edge of the crater, Lake Taupo, before continuing north to the Geo-thermal centre of New Zealand, Rotorua. Here we’ll be settling for the night in luxury accommodation, lakeside in the city centre. |
DAY 3) ROTORUA - AUCKLAND
299 kms / 4hrs + stops After a great breakfast in Eat Street, we head for the east coastal paradise of Tauranga and on to the rolling hill side of Waihi (site of New Zealand’s largest open cast gold mine). Next we head north to Albany, which is on the North Shore of Auckland city. Here you’ll rest up in the comfort of a luxury apartment in a village setting. |
DAY 4) AUCKLAND - OPONONI
240 kms / 3.5hrs + stops Today we ride into Northland and roads less travelled, heading west through some of the most beautiful natural forests in New Zealand. Enjoy a visit to the oldest known Kauri tree in the world, Tane Mahuta, before reaching the golden sand dunes of Hokianga harbour. Tonight we settle in stunning surroundings with incredible harbour views. Perfect after a great day’s ride. |
DAY 5) OPONONI - CAPE REINGA - PAIHIA
369 kms / 5hrs + stops Today it’s an early start, kicked off with a complimentary cooked breakfast. Today’s ride ticks all the boxes; beautiful fern clad canopies, a short ferry crossing, curves that seem endless and open sweepers for as far as the eye can see. Enjoy the occasional small town village dotted along the way before arriving at the tip of the Island, Cape Reinga, where the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean collide. Then we’ll head down the east coast to the town of Paihia, the fun capital of Northland and our quality accommodation harbour side. |
DAY 6) REST DAY
Today you can relax and explore, and there are loads of things to see and do – visit Waitangi, home of the Treaty (the founding document for NZ today), take a short ferry ride across the harbour to the historic town of Russell, or enjoy a boat trip through the Hole In The Rock in one of our largest sea reserves. Then top it all off with a stop by the Duke of Marlborough Pub for a drink in NZ’s first licensed Pub (1827), sitting on the waterfront. |
DAY 7) PAIHIA - CAMBRIDGE
370 kms / 4hrs + stops Keeping with the theme of our ever-changing scenery so far, we head south along the coast before briefly rejoining civilisation and the state highway, then again breaking out into rural New Zealand. Lap up the rolling hillsides and bush clad river gorges, before we arrive in horse country and the small village of Cambridge. This afternoon you’re in for a treat with a complimentary Kiwi BBQ, with the finest lamb and beef accompanied with local fair at our near new luxury accommodation within walking distance of the village centre. |
DAY 8) CAMBRIDGE - NAPIER
270 kms / 3hrs + stops After a relaxed start, we head for the great Crater Lake that is Taupo for a lakeside lunch, but not before taking in some of the local Geo thermal wanders, and power of nature displayed by the Huka Falls. After lunch we head east to the fruit bowl of New Zealand, and the coastal city of Napier (after being destroyed in 50s by an earthquake, Napier now boosts the largest collection of Art Deco building still standing in the world). Our accommodation a magnificent step back in time in the city centre. |
DAY 9) NAPIER - WELLINGTON
250 kms / 3.2hrs + stops It may be our last day together, but it’s still throttle on for your ultimate riding experience. After a relaxed start we’re off to Havelock and Te Mata Peak, which offers uninterrupted views of the entire Hawkes Bay Region and it’s wonderful diverse landscape. Keeping on the less travelled roads, we’ll head inland though Ongaonga, then south veering east into the Sunny Wairarapa district with its open curves and rolling countryside before riding NZ’s own ‘Dragon’s Tail’, the Rimutaka Range and descending into the Hutt Valley and the Wellington region. |
We’ll arrive back at the stable around mid afternoon (2pm-3pm) on Saturday. Whether you decide to stay for one last night of comradery and laughter before leaving for home, or need to catch an evening flight, we’re with you all the way.
